A11 - Just and Orderly Transition
- Indonesia Pavilion COP 28
- Tuesday, 5 December 2023
- 17:30 - 18:50 (Dubai Time)
About
The session begins with an introduction to the array of enablers that are propelling the energy transition. These enablers encompass a wide spectrum of technologies, from renewable energy sources like solar and wind to advanced grid systems and digitalization. Advanced energy storage solutions, including lithium-ion batteries, hydrogen, and grid-scale technologies, are explored for their ability to enhance grid stability and facilitate the integration of intermittent renewable energy sources. Decentralized energy systems, such as microgrids and distributed energy resources, empower communities to generate, manage, and share energy locally, reducing dependency on centralized grids. With a focus on achieving a just and orderly transition within the energy sector, this agenda outlines key topics and discussions to drive the conversation forward. This agenda will spotlight the remarkable growth of renewable energy sources, highlighting the economic opportunities and challenges they present. Experts will discuss policies and strategies to accelerate the transition to clean energy while safeguarding the livelihoods of fossil fuel workers.
Experts will dissect policy and regulatory frameworks at local, national, and international levels, highlighting best practices and areas where improvements are needed to ensure a fair transition. Experts will explore funding mechanisms and investment strategies that can accelerate the shift toward sustainable energy sources, while addressing financial concerns associated with the transition.
The session concludes by emphasizing the importance of international collaborations and investment in research and development to accelerate the global adoption of these enablers and achieving a just and orderly transition worldwide. It aims to unite experts, innovators, and policymakers in inspiring discussions, fostering collaborations, and driving innovations that will propel the global transition toward sustainable and low-carbon energy.
This session will provide a platform for stakeholders from diverse backgrounds to come together, share insights, and chart a course toward a more sustainable, equitable, and prosperous energy future.
