About
Background:
For Indonesia, sustainable development or a green concept is no longer an option. As one of the countries that ratified the Paris Agreement on climate change, Indonesia has made a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with a target of reducing 31.89% on its own and reaching 43.2% with international support, referring to Enhanced Nationally Determined Contribution submitted to UNFCC on 2022 as a more aggressive and challenging target compared to prior commitments. One of the significant greenhouse gases that Indonesia is looking to address is methane, which is a potent contributor to global warming.
Bioenergy, harnessed from organic sources like agricultural residues, forestry byproducts, and organic waste, offers a captivating pathway for sustainable electricity generation and can help in reducing methane emissions. This holds particularly vital in the context of the essential transition towards renewable energy. The urgency of addressing pressing environmental concerns, including the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, such as methane, and the mitigation of ecological impact, cannot be overstated. Simultaneously, the journey towards renewable energy bolsters energy security through the incorporation of diverse and sustainable energy sources.
However, unlocking the full potential of bioenergy mandates substantial research and development (R&D) endeavors. As part of the global initiative to combat climate change and reduce methane emissions, bioenergy innovations assume a pivotal role, given their potential to offer renewable and carbon-neutral energy solutions. Amidst the ongoing pursuit of economic growth and ecological preservation, the transition towards renewable energy emerges as a momentous step forward, contributing to the reduction of methane and other greenhouse gas emissions.
This transition aligns not only with the broader objective of harmonizing these two objectives but also paves the way for a more secure energy future while addressing methane emissions. By embracing bioenergy alongside other renewable sources such as solar and wind, societies can significantly reduce their carbon footprint, fostering an environmentally conscious and economically viable energy landscape that plays a crucial role in mitigating methane emissions, a potent greenhouse gas, and advancing global efforts to combat climate change
The objectives are:
To promote a holistic understanding of the importance, potential, challenges, and opportunities for bioenergy innovations, including their role in mitigating methane emissions.
To address the broader context of policy frameworks and market integration of bioenergy solutions for sustainable electricity generation and methane reduction.
To promote international collaboration for partnership opportunities in the development and deployment of bioenergy solutions aimed at reducing methane emissions and advancing sustainable energy practices worldwide.
Target Audience: Governments, Private Sectors, International Organizations, Academia, NGOs, UN Agencies, and others.
